National Talent Search Exam (NTSE)

 A lot of efforts are taken by the educational authorities for enhancing the quality of education and the quality of students through various educational organizations both government and non-government. The result of one such effort is the National Talent Search Exam (NTSE).

The National Talent Search Exam or NTSE is a scholarship exam conducted by NCERT in two stages along with the State Governments taking care of Stage 1 of the Exam and NCERT handling the Stage 2 of the exam. NTSE is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious and renown exams in our country.


Eligibility

  1. Students studying in Std X are eligible to appear for the exam
  2. Any student studying in a recognized school in India is eligible to apply for the exam
  3. Students with Indian nationality and studying abroad can also apply for the exam
  4. The students should be less than 18 years of age as of 1st July 2021
  5. The student should be applying to the Board exams for the first time
  6. The student should not be employed
  7. Stage 2 of the exam has a State and Union Territory-wise quota which is calculated by the computer depending on the number of students in secondary school in each State and Union Territory
  8. General category students should score a minimum of 40% and other categories should score 32%

How To Apply

  1. The application process of Stage 1 is in the hands of the State/Union Territory
  2. The application process varies and needs to be checked at the local level
  3. It maybe online/offline, individual/school, etc. depending on the State/UT
  4. Application and form fees need to be submitted to Liaison officer of State/UT as per the directives laid down by the State/UT
  5. No separate process is required for Stage 2


Admit Cards

  1. The Admit Card will be sent by the authorities by speed post to the individuals directly
  2. The Admit Cards may or may not be available online depending on your State/UT


Syllabus

The exam consists of 3 parts:

  1. The syllabus of the exam includes the syllabus of standard 9th and 10th syllabus
  2. There is negative marking of 1/3 marks
  3. All questions carry 1 mark
  4. The exam is a multiple choice exam
    • Mental Ability Test (MAT)
    • Language Test
    • Scholastic Ability Test (SAT)
  5. MAT is used to judge the reasoning power and ability of the student think, judge and visualize
  6. It includes questions based on problem-solving, classification, series, patterns, coding-decoding, etc.
  7. The paper will have 50 questions of this section
  8. Language Test is used to judge the student on the lingual abilities of the student
  9. The language test has an option of English or Hindi which can be selected at the time of filing the application
  10. The paper will have 50 questions of this section includes questions based on Maths, Science and Social Science of class 9 and 10 of the students
  11. The paper will have 150 questions of this section
  12. The paper can be attempted in the following languages - Asamiya, Bangla, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu


Scholarships

  1. The scholarships are awarded to students who clear the stage 2 of the exam
  2. The scholarship is awarded to the students up to doctoral level if they pursue courses in science or social science
  3. It is available up to the second-degree level subject in case of medical and engineering courses
  4. The scholarship structure is as follows

Q.1.What languages can the paper be given?

Ans.The paper can be given in Asamiya, Bangla, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu,and Urdu. However, the Language test can be given only in English or Hindi.

 

Q.2.Where can I start preparing for the exam?

Ans.You can start preparing for NTSE right from your class 9th& 10th textbooks. When you finish them you can go for reputed books available at your local bookstore.

 

Q.3.How many students are awarded the scholarship?

Ans.About 1000 students are awarded the scholarship every year.

 

Q.4.Whom can I contact in case of grievances?

Ans.For grievances regarding Stage 1 of the exam, you must contact your respective State/UT authorities. For grievances of Stage 2, you must contact NCERT.
