Quick Look at JEE Advanced 2018
The conducting authority of JEE Advanced for the year 2018 was IIT Kanpur. A total of 2,24,000 students were eligible for JEE Advanced 2018. This year’s exam was conducted on a purely online (computer based) basis. The reservation for PwD candidates was increased from 3% to 5%. The distribution for the different categories has been changed for the year 2018. Additional 4000 students will be eligible to sit for the exam which makes the total number of students appearing for the test to 2,24,000. JEE Advanced 2018 saw a application fee hike for all the categories. However, GST was not applicable for the fees. Supernumerary seats were created for female candidates in order to increase their presence to 14% rather than the existing 8%. During the form filling process, candidates had to fill 5 test centres rather than 3 centres which was the norm earlier. Special care was taken in order to reduce any negative impact of technical malfunctions during the test. If any candidate’s computer/mouse were to malfunction during the exam, a new system was to be allotted to the candidate and necessary changes were to be made on the server to compensate for the time lost during this process. Hence, it was guaranteed that all the students got exactly 3 hours (180 minutes) per paper to attempt the test.
