The exam pattern of NTSE 2018 can be found on their official websites mentioned by state education boards and NCERT. The exam pattern seeks the true talent and deserving students and provides them with a scholarship. The exam pattern provides a schematic view to the candidate about examination in terms of the marking scheme, maximum marks, and duration of the exam, negative marking and more. It is a pen and paper based examination format is mentioned below. It is an objective type question paper and carrying 1 mark in each question. To utilize best of time candidates must go through exam pattern thoroughly in well advanced to give the best performance to attain a scholarship.

    Stage 1 NTSE exam pattern helps the candidates know the first level of the scholarship test and accordingly candidate can prepare to qualify for the second stage. Similarly, the Stage 2 of NTSE exam pattern 2018 will help candidates in getting knowledge about the final round of selection for the scholarships.

NTSE 2018 Exam Pattern – Stage 1

Stage 1 has further two parts and parts could be attempted either in Hindi or English. The best part is for every right answer one will fetch 1 mark and there's no negative marking for wrong ones. Total of 180 minutes is allowed for the candidate to complete the exam.

Part 1 – Mental Ability Test (MAT):

MAT includes analytical and logical reasoning questions. The main purpose of MAT is to check one's reasoning, ability to think, evaluation power, ability to observe and visualize. It consists of a total of 50 questions and time allotted for MAT is 45 minutes. Topics for MAT questions are series, pattern perception, analogies, coding-decoding, classifications, hidden figures and problem-solving etc.

Part 2 – Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)- Language:

It has a total of 50 questions from Science, Social Science and Mathematics and total time allotted for language is 45 minutes. It is to check one's reading abilities, interpretation skill, evaluation and general knowledge related to subjects.

Part 3 – Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)-Aptitude Test:

It has a total of 100 questions from aptitude and total time allotted for language is 90 minutes. It is to check one's numeric ability, verbal ability, data checking, spatial ability and many more.

Both the sections will have 100 questions in each. The time allotted for both the exams is 3 hours. But there will 1/3 negative marking for wrong answers. Only Meritorious candidates qualifying in both the papers separately will qualify for final scholarship consideration. Selection of the awardee student depends upon the sum up the score in MAT and SAT-based on merit.
