The National Talent Search Examination is one of the talent hunt examinations gives great opportunities to young genius minds to come up to showcase their excellent talent at the state or national level offering financial aids for their studies and praise their enthusiasm.
It occurs in two stages Stage 1 and Stage 2.The student needs to clear both the stages to qualify for the final scholarship. Candidates who appeared for NTSE examination Stage 1 will need to meet NTSE 2018 cut off score which is a baseline score above which one qualify for the NTSE Stage 2 examination. Similarly, there exists a baseline for the second stage too, that a candidate needs to score to qualify the final stage of scholarship test. Students qualifying these two rounds become eligible for attaining a scholarship.

NTSE Important Dates
It is student's duty to stay updated about the exam process dates. The dates for stage 1 and 2 are:
- NTSE stage 1- First week of November
- NTSE stage 2 - Second week of May
NTSE Eligibility Criteria
Class X students from across the country are eligible for NTSE scholarship program. Every year, it awards 1000 scholarships to students who successfully complete the examination and scores above the threshold scores.
1,000 scholarships will be awarded under the NTSE criteria as follows:
- Rest 1250 per month for Class 11th and 12th level
- Rest 2000 per month for UG and PG
- The amount for Ph.D. to be fixed under the norms of under the scholarship reservation.
- 15% part of the part comes under reservation part for SC category students.
- 5% part is allowed for ST category students and rest 3% are present for physically challenged students.
For appearing in the NTSE scholarship programme, the Eligibility Criteria must be fulfilled by the 10th-grade students, which are set by the National Council of Education and Training (NCERT). It has two Levels of examination- Level-I and Level-II.
The Level-I eligibility criteria ask for minimum 60% marks in class IX, during the previous academic year. A Relaxation of 5% is there, In case of SC, ST and PH category students.
The Level-II eligibility requires Student scoring the minimum eligible score in level 1 examination. After the level-II exam, students are selected as per their total marks evaluation reaching up to merit for scholarships.
NTSE Exam Pattern
All the eligible students for Level I of the examination must learn about the NTSE Exam Pattern.
The Exam Is Conducted At Two Levels-
Level -1
Part 1 – Mental Ability Test (MAT)
MAT includes analytical and logical reasoning questions. The main purpose of MAT is to check one's reasoning, ability to think, evaluation power, ability to observe and visualize. It consists of a total of 50 questions and time allotted for MAT is 45 minutes. Topics for MAT questions are series, pattern perception, analogies, coding-decoding, classifications, hidden figures and problem-solving etc.
Part 2 – Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
It has a total of 50 questions from Language and 100 questions from Science, Social Science and Mathematics and total time allotted for language is 45 minutes and Science, Maths and Social Science is 90 minutes. It is to check one's reading abilities, interpretation skill, evaluation and general knowledge related to subjects.
Level -2
The shortlisted candidates for stage 1 appear for Stage 2 exam. The exam pattern for the paper is further divided into two parts:
-Mental Ability Test (MAT)
-Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
Both the sections will have 100 questions in each. The time allotted for both the exams is 2 hours. But there will not any negative marking for wrong answers. Only Meritorious candidates qualifying in both the papers separately will qualify for final scholarship consideration. Selection of the awardee student depends upon the sum up the score in MAT and SAT-based on merit.
